The Last Frontier
We are back from our very exciting trip to Alaska which included two black bear sightings and a near encounter with a brown bear, lucky for us because with had 3 young children on the trail with us. We also saw moose and lots of sea life during our boating excursions. Britt caught a 25 pound king salmon and plenty of Halibut all weighing more then 30 pounds (the captain wouldn't keep anything under) in all we came home with 80 pounds of freshly frozen fish. Alexis was a perfect gem except for when she didn't want to go to sleep. I think she was very confused as to the day light at 10:30 when I finally would get her to slow down. I had a good time looking for wild life and just enjoying not doing the day to day stuff.
We almost stumbled upon the brown bear while on our hike to the Russian River Falls. It is a known bear fishing spot. They have an observation deck so you can see them safely, but the trail is not so safe. As we were heading back two guys coming in said a bear had just followed them down the trail and had pictures to prove it. We never saw it but smelled it. That is as close to a bear I want to be. Britt saw a whale on the halibut trip and I got to see the Aialik Glacier. It is 1 mile across and crazy huge. There is ice floating around in the ocean and you can hear it breaking up as it moves into the ocean. It is very cool. I will post more pics later!
2 lil' notes:
